Site of the Day: CommonGate
March 9, 2007 |
Today we had an interesting submission to the social network category. From their own description: “CommonGate is a member-created blog network that makes blogging easy, fun and relevant. Post, share and socialize when you like and how you like - and it automatically collects in your custom home page.” I would like to add: predefined community topics, extendable.
Good to have one more social network join the community, but bad that you cannot find the OpenID login from the homepage. As this is marked with beta I guess they want to hide it from their community until they know it works. The login / registration worked seemlessly for me and the concept looks pretty interesting.
I think this network tries to mix content edited by professionals with user generated content, even if they want us to believe that everything comes from their users. But this looks slightly too professional ;-). Every article has a picture (a good one!) and is written in professional writers words. Maybe they just push it a bit to startup the community.
Anyway a nice looking, very professional site with interesting content and a good concept. Somehow similar to Digg.com brushed and polished for a lesser geeky audience.
Give it a try and build an OpenID Gate!
